Goochland County, Virginia — Reckless Driving Defense Lawyer Case Result

Repeat offender charged with class 1 misdemeanor Reckless Driving for speeding 87 MPH in a 70 MPH zone and charge was REDUCED to Speeding 10-14 MPH over the limit.  Unlike Reckless Driving, which is a misdemeanor charge that carries 6 demerit points on a driving record for 11 years, Speeding 10-14 MPH over the limit is a traffic infraction which carries 4 demerit points on a driving record for 5 years.  Also, because a speeding infraction is not a misdemeanor offense, it does not carry a potential jail sentence or license suspension, and the fine which may be imposed is much less than the fine for Reckless Driving.
